Annelies is a crying humanoid robot, built as a ‘spare sister’ for L.A. Raeven. Her first public appearance was during the RobotLove exhibition in Eindhoven, 2018 as part of the Dutch Design Week. I was responsible for the electronics, software, sensing, sound and mechanics. The modelling, casting and painting have been done by Remie Bakker of manimalworks. The work is currently on display in the Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht. It was also shown on the Dutch television programme ‘De Wereld Draait Door’ and discussed in Dutch media such as VPRO magazine and ‘de Volkskrant’. The robot also starred in an episode of ‘Het Klokhuis’ on Humanoids.

The robot is controlled using custom designed animatronics, including sound, motion detection and embedded capacitive touch sensors in the upper-arms.
